Protecting the Integrity & Reputation of Irish Horseracing

Curragh 22nd August 2015

The Stewards authorised the following substitutions of riders at this meeting:

P.K. Donovan rode Three Majors, trained by P.D. Deegan (Race 2)(no rider nominated)

229B Irish Stallion Farms EBF M'dn

The Stewards interviewed P.D. Deegan, trainer, concerning his failure to nominate a rider before the designated time for Three Majors. Evidence was heard from the trainer who stated that the owners wanted to use a professional Jockey but he was unable to secure the service of anyone due to the large number of runners. He added that he had left the nomination blank in the anticipation that the fast ground might lead to some defectors and the chance of a professional Jockey becoming available. He requested that P.K. Donovan, stable Apprentice, be allowed to ride his charge because of his familiarity with the animal from it's home work. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the request and furthermore accepted the explanation offered as there were extenuating circumstances in this situation.

The Stewards fined Joseph G. Murphy, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Shepherds Crook (GB), in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

229D Breast Cancer Research Debutante Stakes

C. O'Donoghue, rider of Minding trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran green throughout this race.

229E Curragh Stakes

The Stewards interviewed Gavin Faulkner, rider of Iyiyiangel, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Gavin Faulkner was in breach of R10(3)(b) by using his whip when out of contention and consequently suspended him for 1 raceday having taken his clean previous record into consideration.

Gavin Faulkner, rider of Iyiyiangel, trained by Niall Moran, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was in season.

229F Irish Times H'cap

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Empress Toorah, trained by Sabrina J. Harty, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
