Ballinrobe 27th May 2014

122B McHale F5500 Baler H'cap H'dle

The Stewards enquired into an incident after the third last hurdle involving Garbally Grey, ridden by S.D. Bohan, unplaced, Hilden (GB), ridden by D.J. Condon, unplaced and Siobhans Belle, ridden by J.J. Burke, placed second, where it appeared Siobhans Belle ran short of room when racing on the inside. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was caused by D.J. Condon riding carelessly and consequently suspended him for 1 raceday.

The Stewards requested a report from S.J.Mahon, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Lost Book, placed first, as compared with her recent run. S.J. Mahon reported that his charge previously ran at Fairyhouse 6th May where she was impeded at the first hurdle and became lit up resulting in her running too freely and emptying quickly. Today R.C. Colgan, rider, dropped her in and got her to settle before letting her creep into the race gradually. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

122D McHale Coranna H'cap H'dle

B.J. Geraghty, rider of Moon Dice, trained by Paul W. Flynn, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped poorly throughout.

D.E. Mullins, rider of Vive La France (FR), trained by A.J.Martin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran too keen and stopped quickly.

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Vive La France (FR), trained by A.J.Martin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

122E McHale Mayo National H'cap S'chase

P. Townend, rider of Caoimhe's Delight trained by Sean O. O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled and was pulled up.

P.J. Rothwell, trainer of Beneficial Spirit, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his charge burst a blood vessel and was pulled up.

P.T. Enright, rider of Fantastic Gold (GB) trained by M.O. Cullinane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise and was pulled up.

122F Martinstown Opportunity H'cap S'chase

The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of Doc Hollywood, trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, placed second compared with its recent form. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned who stated that this gelding benefitted today from the good underfoot conditions, the application of cheekpieces, the distance of the race and the wide berth ensuring a clear run throughout the race. She added that this gelding had two runs recently over hurdles which sharpened her charge. She described the application of cheekpieces as a benefit as the gelding can be lacking in bravery and can be a little ungenuine. Evidence was also heard from Noel O'Brien, Turf Club Senior N.H Handicapper who stated that todays run far exceeded any of his previous three runs over fences. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
