Raceday Operations Manager

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) is the regulatory body for horseracing in Ireland, responsible for the integrity and reputation of Irish racing domestically and internationally, including the licensing of participants in Irish Racing.  The IHRB are currently recruiting for a Raceday Operations Manager who will report to the Head of Raceday Operations.

The Raceday Operations Manager will be part of the leadership team with responsibility for managing IHRB raceday operations. This would involve liaising closely with raceday officials, racecourse managers and other organisations involved in safeguarding the integrity of Irish horseracing.  Regular communication with the Head of Raceday Operations will be a big aspect of this role.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day duties of the raceday officials’ team which would include the rostering, training and development of the team.
  • Responsible for the preparation, administration and implementation of Raceday operations which would include budget matters, rostering oversight and reports on racecourse incidents.
  • Supporting the Head of Raceday Operations in development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Driving the updating and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Liaising with stakeholders and service providers as required and ensuring effective channels of communications.
  • Liaising with the Senior Stipendiary Steward regularly to include updates on rules and guidance, plus monitoring of decisions and providing feedback to ensure the highest standards of integrity services are delivered.
  • Liaising with the Licensing Committee and Racecourses including visits to racecourses as required to ensure racecourse standards are maintained and improved upon and that all new developments are fit for the delivery of integrity services.
  • Any other duties as may be required from time to time.


  • Experience of leading and developing a team.
  • Ability to be proactive and to deal with matters as they arise when under pressure.
  • Capable of understanding, developing and assessing operations, protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to inspire the trust and confidence of colleagues and Stakeholders.
  • Understanding of sports governance and regulation would be desirable. Knowledge of racing essential.
  • Attention to detail is critical.
