The directors of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), are pleased to announce the appointment of Shay Quinn as full-time Deputy National Hunt Handicapper.

Shay, from Loughboy, Co. Kilkenny joined the Turf Club in 2002 as a Racing Official and has worked primarily as a Stipendiary Steward prior to taking over the handicapping role in an interim capacity in 2017.  This appointment has now been made full-time.

Welcoming the appointment, IHRB Chief Executive Denis Egan said that he was “delighted that Shay has taken over the role on a full-time basis.  In view of his vast racing knowledge, he will be a great asset to the team”.

Commenting on his appointment, Shay Quinn said that “l really enjoyed the last 15 years working as a stipendiary steward and am looking forward to this new challenge. It’s an area I’ve always taken interest in and a job I feel very comfortable doing. There’s a bitter sweet feeling today as I can’t help but think of my close friend Noel. I hope I can do the job justice and to the standard Noel would have expected. Sandy Shaw is an exceptional handicapper and it’s a pleasure to work with him”.
