Curragh Project On Course

Pierce Molony, Senior Steward of the Turf Club, and An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern met at a function in Co Kildare today (Thursday) at which Mr Molony reported on the progress being made in the redevelopment of the Curragh Racecourse. “The first stage of the construction is the new ring road and I am delighted to announce that this project is fully on schedule and will be completed in time for the Boylesports-sponsored Irish Guineas weekend on May 26th", commented the Senior Steward.

Stressing once again that racing at the Curragh would not be disrupted during the construction of the new facilities, Mr Molony informed Mr Ahern that a new weighroom complex and champagne bar will be erected following the Budweiser Irish Derby weekend in early July and that the parade ring would be expanded during that period. “Everything is still going to plan and work will begin on the new grandstand immediately after the two-day Irish Field St Leger fixture in September,” he said. “We are optimistic that a new section of the new grandstand will be available for the 2008 Irish Derby with the final construction being completed in March 2009.”
