The Stewards fined the following trainer in respect of their non-runner:-

C. Moore, trainer of Beer With The Boys (GB) (injured in transit) - €200

130A Roscommon Claiming M'dn

The Stewards enquired into an incident about one and a half furlongs from the finish involving Plankton, ridden by C.T. Keane, Red Storm, ridden by S.D. Bowen and Geri Hatrick (GB), ridden by R.P. Whelan, where it appeared that Red Storm checked momentarily when Plankton edged onto his racing line. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, S.D. Bowen stated that he was maintaining a straight line when he took a precautionary check as he got tight for room when Plankton edged inwards. R.P. Whelan stated that he received a slight bump from Red Storm but was having a difficult ride as his own mount was hanging badly to the right. C.T. Keane stated that his mount was making his racecourse debut and ran away from a smack with the whip due to greeness. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that interference had taken place but did not apportion blame to any rider. They did, however, advise C.T. Keane to ride with more awareness. Kevin Borthwick accompanied S.D. Bowen at this enquiry.

C.J. MacRedmond, rider of Sovereignty trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount jumped right out of the starting stalls.

S.D. Bowen, rider of Red Storm trained by Denis Gerard Hogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount met with slight interference in the latter stages of this race.

The Stewards requested a report from M.C. Grassick, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Brown Eagle, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Thomas Dowling, Authorised Representative of M.C. Grassick, reported that the application of blinkers for the first time, the ease in the ground conditions and drop back to a Claiming Maiden today compared to a very competitive handicap the last day at Cork were in their opinion contributing factors to the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.

S. Foley, rider of Gregor Mendel trained by Jack W. Davison, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount went left upon leaving the stalls.

R.P. Whelan, rider of Geri Hatrick (GB) trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left under pressure and lost action late on in the straight.

130C Tulsk Apprentice H'cap

The Stewards interviewed Neve Bennett, rider of Sondheim, concerning her use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In her evidence, Neve Bennett accepted that she had used her whip when well out of contention but explained that she was encouraging her mount to keep racing as she felt that if he was left alone he might slow down. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Neve Bennett was in breach of R10(3)(b) by using her whip unnecessarily after her mounts chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone. Having taken her clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned Neve Bennett on this occasion.

J.A. Powell, rider of Seven Worlds trained by D.J. Bunyan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled during this race.

The Stewards enquired into the behaviour of Maccliff prior to the start of this race where Nathan O'Sullivan, Apprentice Jockey, had to dismount and lead his mount to the start. The Stewards were also aware that Gerard Michael Hussey, trainer of Maccliff, had requested permission by email through the Licensing Department to have his charge walked to the seven furlong start. The Stewards referenced Rules 153(vi) and 153 (vii) and sought an explanation from the persons involved. The trainer stated that he had confirmed the riding arrangement with James Nash, Master of Nathan O'Sullivan, and had informed him that Maccliff would be difficult to get to the start but would be grand during the race. He assumed that his charge could be led to the start because of her difficulty and was satisfied that the animal was a suitable ride for an Apprentice Jockey. Nathan O'Sullivan, rider, stated that this was his first ride on the racetrack and was not familiar with his mount before today. He added that in the interests of safety, he dismounted on instruction immediately outside the horse gate and led his mount to the start. The Stewards had wished to interview James Nash, Master of Nathan O'Sullivan, but were unable to do so as a result of his absence from today's fixture. Having considered all the evidence and viewed a recording of Maccliff from the time she left the parade ring, the Stewards were unable to conclude this enquiry as all evidence had not been gathered and in the circumstances they referred the matter to a Senior Racing Official for further investigation.

J.A. Powell, rider of Dudley's Bar trained by J.P. Murtagh, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the straight.

The Stewards enquired into an incident about two furlongs from the finish involving Aghaboy (GER), ridden by S.T. McCullagh, Dudley's Bar, ridden by J.A. Powell and Steps In The Sand, ridden by W.J. Lee, where it appeared that Steps In The Sand ran short of room between horses and checked. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, W.J. Lee stated that the race had developed into a sprint up the straight when a gap appeared but shut slightly when Aghaboy (GER) manoeuvered outwards slightly causing him to check left off his heels. S.T. McCullagh stated that his mount was lugging right onto the running rail when he hit him a slap to straighten him but he reacted by shifting left before being quickly corrected. J.A. Powell stated that his mount was lugging slightly to the right when he changed his whip hand to correct him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action.
