The Stewards requested a report from F. Flood, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Down Under, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Francis J. Flood, authorised representative of F. Flood trainer reported that this gelding needs a fast gallop to enable him to get into a race in the latter stages which in turn gives him encouragement to pass tired horses. He recalled that his charge struggled with the fast pace at Fairyhouse 7th April and was subsequently checked by their own Veterinary surgeon but nothing abnormal was found. In his most recent run at Kilbeggan 15th May the animal was held up towards the rear of the field but made a bad mistake at the fourth last fence and was unable to get into contention thereafter eventually being pulled up. He added that today he was ridden off a fast early pace but the complexion of the race changed when two runners fell and this enabled his charge to get a prominent position which gave him the encouragement to stay on strongly in the closing stages. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
