The Stewards requested a report from John C. McConnell, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Blue Ridge Lane, placed first, as compared with its recent form. John C. McConnell reported that his charge was fitted with blinkers and a tongue strap when making his seasonal appearance at Wexford 10th May but jumped off slowly and was never able to get into contention thereafter. He then ran at Tramore 31st May because stalls are not used there. Blinkers were deleted and tactics were changed to make him race with the pace. He added that when passed at Tramore the animal showed reluctance to race. Today with the blinkers reapplied he jumped out of stalls adequately and was ridden from off the pace and produced wide to run on well. He felt that his charge has ability but is not the most genuine. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of this report.

The Stewards interviewed D.M. Grant, rider of Hangar Five, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.M. Grant was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and cautioned him having taken his previous good record into consideration.
